Responsible Gaming

This page sets out the practical thinking behind gambling sensibly, and it says plainly what this site can and cannot do to help someone control their gambling.

What can a reader actually decide before they start?

The one control that always sits with the reader, before any account exists, is the decision made before a single bet is placed. Deciding an amount in advance and treating it as already spent removes the moment of pressure where a bigger figure feels reasonable because it is being weighed against a possible win rather than against a fixed budget set with a clear head.

  • Set the amount before starting, not while play is underway, so the decision is not influenced by a current run of results.
  • Treat that amount as gone the moment it is staked; planning to "get it back" is what turns a single loss into a longer one.
  • Never chase a loss — the urge to recover money quickly is what drives stake sizes upward.
  • Keep gambling money separate from borrowed money, so a loss cannot become a debt.
  • Take breaks during a session; a pause is often the only thing that restores the judgement a long session erodes.
  • Involve someone else early, while it is still a choice rather than a habit — a second opinion catches what a person in the middle of it often cannot.

Where do the help organisation links appear on this site?

Every page of this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: BeGambleAware, Gambling Therapy and GamCare. These are the only outbound links on the whole site that are not commercial. Unlike the operator links, they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open in a separate tab on the organisations' own websites. This site receives nothing when a reader follows them.

Why can't this site switch on account controls like limits or self-exclusion?

Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion all belong to an operator account. This build has no account, no form and no server-side application behind it, so nothing published here can switch one of those controls on, check whether it is active, or enforce it. Anything a reader can actually do with money happens after leaving this site: each operator link redirects to a third party, and from that moment the destination's own rules, checks and account controls apply — not anything published here. A reader who wants deposit limits, time-outs or self-exclusion needs to set them up directly inside the account at that destination.

Does this site check age or watch for risky behaviour?

The eighteen-and-over restriction is repeated throughout this build, including on the front page, but nobody's age is verified on this site and no gambling takes place on it. Any age check happens at the destination a reader is sent to. There is also no advertising or behavioural profiling network present in these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader who has shown risky behaviour. The small amount of visit data this site collects — page path, event type, referring search engine and clicked button text — is used only to count page views and outbound clicks, and only for a visit arriving from a search engine; it plays no part in identifying or targeting any individual reader.

What should a reader do if gambling stops feeling like entertainment?

The practical signal worth watching for is simple: gambling has stopped being entertainment the moment it is being used to fix a feeling, a debt, or a bad day. At that point, the useful step is not to look for a stricter rule to follow but to talk to someone outside the situation. The three organisations linked on every page of this site exist as an independent source of help for exactly that conversation, separate from any operator and separate from this site.
